The Intelligence Pie with Perplexity.AI

maybe the intelligence pie has already shifted from 2000 to 2020 and might change alot from 2020 to 2060. The main categories being human, ecological, animal and machine intelligences driving interactions and life on earth.

The graphs beneath the pies show that despite our growing distaste for the IQ test nothing has seemed to scale across populations as easily nor predict lifetime outcomes as successfully as IQ.

However last night I pondered, is this relationship between IQ as a test and life outcome predicability breaking down in the context of AI, as we break through the industrial uniformity age and into the intelligence revolution of diversity?

This morning I woke up early and played out a conversation with Perplexity AI to help me find the literature on understanding the possible cracks in the IQ wall that we could look at over time to point to any potential changes in the overall relationship between IQ and outcomes.

Through a few enquiries I found that chronotype — whether you are a morning person or night owl has a consistent effect

when kids come with their parents to visit us at the hut i am always amazed how with just a wild bbq fire and a hammock they are engaged for hours, never getting in trouble — which is relaxing for parents having a moment to talk, rest, eat and connect with each other! like our hut week this summer!

And i wondered if the presencing of smells, tastes and sounds of gentle nature affects fluid intelligence (-problem solving, adapting etc) in the same way that time of day affects the internal chronotype on crystallised intelligence, perplexity said…

his i understand is because the focus has been on reducing variability of environment rather than being interested in discovering regions of flow for humans in different sensorial environments. so not a surprise that no-one has tested if the variability is consistent and statistically relevant in a nature environment vas ‘lab ‘ condition.

I went on to ask our current understanding of difference in correlative powers of F vs C intelligence in predicting life outcomes…

if you read journals about the future of work, most commen that the most useful skill into the future is adaptability and dynamism. it is possible, just as the exact value of spelling depreciated when our little friend the paper clip arrived in windows 3.1 — that the overall value of crystallised intelligence and jobs associated with this type of knowledge recall is deminishing before our eyes as the intelligence pie swells dramatically before us.

It is possible that its change corrodes the relationship with clinically driven IQ tests as the best predictor of real world outcomes and leaves room for new methods of finding flow in order to help us find out diverse places in this challenging generation ahead.

If indeed the IQ relationship is on the way out, I am interested in understanding the test method that will enable us cultivate a framework which has our flourishing at its heart, that is designed specifically for the 100 years ahead of finding our way through existential threats with machines at our side. Could IF — Intelligence flow be that useful home?

3 possible research questions…

Is fluid intelligence affected by being outdoors in a similar way to how crystallised intelligence is correlated to chronotype and timing of test?

Is fluid intelligence becoming more predictive of life outcomes, relative to crystallised intelligence in 2020 than 2000 and Is this related to machine intelligence?

can fluid intelligence be sensed by ECG devices in a way that can be reliably blind correlated to IQ test results?
